email: info@elliotbay.nz

Welcome to Elliot Bay campground! We are a back-to-basics campground where the beach is the star of the show. We trust you will have a safe and enjoyable time here, please follow these guidelines to ensure that happens.

We do not permit pets, firearms, jet skis, quads or motorbikes on this property.

Booking and arrivals

Check in from 12pm – 8pm.  For Christmas and January we recommend booking to avoid disappointment. On arrival, please check in and pay the managers in the green house on the right-hand side before entering the camp. Payment is by cash, or wifi is available at the house for bank transfers. No EFTPOS. Fees: $20 per night per adult, kids under 13 stay for free.

Sites

We do not have strict site boundaries but ask that you keep your campsite footprint reasonable during Summer to allow everyone to enjoy Elliot’s. If you have more than one vehicle, please park extras in non-campable areas or where directed to by the camp managers.

Toilet and water facilities
In off-season, there is a composting long-drop next to the woolshed. In Summer, you will need to be self-contained; either digging your own long drop and providing an ablution tent or having a chemical toilet. There are no dumpsite facilities for campervans. Fresh water is available from the taps at the woolshed, fill up there only, do not wash yourself or your dishes there or it ends up a smelly mud puddle. We do not have any shower facilities.

Fridge/freezers

Fridges/freezers in the woolshed are for public use. They are cleared out once per week and you MUST label items with name and date of departure. Unnamed/dated items will be removed. Please use the bait freezer for fish items and bait.

Vehicles

For dust control and safety, the speed limit is 15 k/h. Licensed drivers only. Keep vehicle movements to a minimum to avoid damaging the ground. No vehicle movements around camp after dark. No vehicles on the beach or sandy areas.  There is no vehicular boat launching available.  You may carry your boat across the beach to launch.

Rubbish

Local rubbish collection sacks are available for purchase. Please do not overfill and do not place glass in them. Please leave these at the rubbish sack collection point (managers will direct you.) No rubbish, including fish waste, is to be buried at your campsite or dumped on the beach.

Noise
Be considerate regarding noise, especially music, not everybody has the same tastes! Quiet time after 10pm. Noisy parties and drunken behaviour are not tolerated. Please respect other campers’ privacy. Do not fly drones over campsites. Generators are annoying so please use for 20 mins max.

Fires
Small fires are permitted in designated fire spots depending on weather and Fire season, you must ask camp managers before lighting. No fires near any trees, do not cut wood from any trees or logs. No fireworks permitted.

Trees
The pōhutukawa trees are special. Please do not damage them in any way. Do not dig near their roots (if there is foliage above you – do not dig!) Do not put nails in them or hang swing ropes from them.

Visitors
Day visitors must report to the Manager’s house on arrival.  There may be a small charge for parking.

Beach
The end of the beach nearest the road is a surf beach with strong rips. We recommend swimming at the next beach along and taking great care. There are no lifesavers, supervise children closely and swim at your own risk!

Please give any wildlife plenty of space. We have endangered birds that rest and nest in the area, if you become aware of a nest, please inform camp managers who will rope them off. Do not cross into any roped off areas and please make sure your children respect this also. If you are fishing or diving, please observe all Fisheries New Zealand rules. Remember, you can limit your catch, you don’t have to catch your limit.

Farm
The campground backs on to a working farm. Please do not enter the farm, it is a multiple hazard area. Do not interfere with livestock. All fences should be regarded as electrified. Please leave gates as you find them and ensure your children do not swing on them and damage them.

When you leave
Please take everything you came with. Double check your camping area for small pieces of rubbish/gear. In Winter, we do not have a check out time. In Summer, please vacate by lunchtime.

Thanks for helping us keep this campground a safe and enjoyable one for everyone who stays!
